SINGER 15K, 1911

Serial #: F1.626.078

Condition: Working

This famous model  with oscillating shuttle is easy to identify because of its tension knob on its face plate. This early example, Kilbowie made,  had  lower bobbin winder, a thick balance wheel, and a non engraved face plate.

Singer 15K was made under license  or copied by many other makers for several decades. It is therefore a classical and famous model.

Decorated with Memphis, or Sphinx  decals, these give a exotic look, very appreciated in the end of 19th century. These beautiful decals were first seen on its forerunner “Improved family”, since 1890. And for 40 years they become unmistakable, and imitated by other makers, as Köhler- see http://home.sol.no/~astaal/KOHL.html, and Mercedes (see www.drmon.co.uk/quinn/mercedes/index.html). For Naumann and Wertheim Sphinxes, see our web site.

For a  later example see next page.
